Why hockey is the best sport.

December 14, 2008

I saw this story the other day and thought it was pretty cool. Reminds me of when I played hockey. My grandmother died when I was about 15 and when I walked into the church I saw my entire team at the funeral. I didn’t know they were going to be there, but it shows the respect and loyalty hockey players have even at a young age. Anyways check out this story.

Bobby Fischer Infographic

October 26, 2008

Bobby Fischer Infographic from Matthew Simon on Vimeo.
3 of us made this in about 6 weeks. It took about 280 hours of work and very little sleep. Julia and Ji Yeong made some amazing assets. They created basically everything, except the 3D elements which I did. We would have liked to end it after he dies, but the script continued.

Sliver

We had to design a beer for Branding class. I came up with Sliver. Its a “Live Beer” that is very healthy for you. A “Live Beer” had extra yeast and sugar added to the bottle so it continues to ferment until its opened. It adds a more complex flavour and has a smoother feel. Here is my label design and a couple adds.

Title Sequence - Chase

This project kind of got neglected because of the infogrpahic. I didn’t start this until 3am the night before it was due. So for maybe 10 hours of work put into this it didn’t turn out too bad. I would have liked to put a lot more time into one, hopefully I’ll get around that sometime. I just played around with some effects like glow and lightning. The type was made in Cinema 4D with the camera movements then brought into After Effects.

Info Graphic

First post of term 3. We have been working on our Bobby Fischer info graphic for a couple weeks now and I think its going to turn out pretty good. Getting a lot better at After Effects and Bun is teaching us some cool stuff right now so I think we can make a really good motion piece this term. Expressions, lighting and cameras can do some amazing things. My title sequence will hopefully look pretty good too. Now, if only I had an idea…

Locked in The Cage no more!

August 26, 2008

The final few days in the Cage are now over. Hard to imagine that some of us were in there for almost 40 hours straight and many of us going on about 12 hours of sleep in 4 days. But we all finished. Everyone’s chroma key projects were really good and there were some wicked flash sites. Didn’t think I would see so much blood. Wow. Anyway, term 2 was ridiculous, the final few weeks at least. This break is nice, still catching up on sleep I think. Leaving for Alberta today, be back next week. Ill have to ask Aaron what the new name for Purple(new class room) is now. See you there.

Flash!

August 12, 2008

How brutal is waking up in the morning and the only thing you can think about is Flash? Lately, thats all that is in my fricken head. I really can’t wait to be done this project on Monday so I can maybe have a dream about a pretty lady again or anything really. I blame Brett for drilling this into our heads but maybe its working. I guess we’ll find out when this project is complete.

Lisa Temes

July 30, 2008

I would like to thank my actress in the talking head, Lisa, who unfortunately sits besides me in many of my classes and pretty much got this blog up and running for me. She should be nominated for the most sarcastic person in the world award, she even puts me to shame. Not too sure how I get anything done sitting beside her in class, constantly laughing. She does have to put up with my stupid Illustrator questions, which is a lot. But nobody can do a better impersonation of Bun Lee then her. If you close your eyes and forget the fact she is not a man, you would swear it was him.

My Curse

July 19, 2008

I think Im going to stop cheering for teams in sports. They NEVER win. For example, I went to the Bombers game last night. They lost and are now 0-4 this season. They also lost the Grey Cup last year. The Flames were the most frustrating team in hockey while I lived in Calgary. When I cheered for the Penguins, Senators, Oilers and Flames in the last four Stanley Cup Finals, they all lost. When I finally moved back to Manitoba, the Jets moved away! What is that?! When is it going to end? No wonder no Canadian team in the NHL, the Jays or Raptors have not won anything since ‘93. The only good thing about this hex, the Canucks aren’t going to win a damn thing!
