Even though my team didn’t qualify for the playoffs, seeing their greatest rivals, the Vancouver Canucks get slayed by Buffy and and the rest of the Hawks was pretty satisfying. Beyond the fact that the Flames had a brutal season, it was still one of the best hockey seasons I have ever seen. Maybe my curse is finally over.
From a Canadian standpoint anyone could say this was the greatest hockey season no matter what team you cheer for. We won the gold medal in extremely dramatic fashion on home ice, it really doesn’t get much bigger. Standing in line at the Railway club at 9am for 2 hours, partying on Granville after the game and celebrating with a victory poutine was something that will not happen again in my lifetime.
A Philly-Chicago Finals was the series I hoped would happen at the beginning of the playoffs. Both are teams I like to watch and play a pretty entertaining style. Their rowdy barns and crazy fans would be quite the experience.
I wish I had my own show like Don Cherry because this is the part where I would go back to an episode a few years ago and tell you all to watch what this smart, good-lookin guy is going to say. Then it would play the clip where I am telling everyone that Winnipeg will have an NHL team back within the next 5 years. It might still be a year or 2 but the fact is an option for the failing project, the Phoenix Coyotes, and many other owners are looking to sell their clubs, it is starting to look realistic.
The playoffs are still on but I am already looking forward to next season. With the Draft and free agents the season never really ends.
Been a while since I have posted anything. I guess I have been pretty busy which is a good thing. Hard to believe its already the end of April though. Winters seem pretty short when you don’t get any snow. This was by far the warmest winter I have ever experienced. From surviving -51 in Alberta to having a couple days of snow here in Van is a welcomed change. Anyway, I’ll start posting some of the work I have done over the last few months. Hopefully have a new website up soon as well. It is going to look similar to this. I’m in the process of refining this mockup. I am redesigning the yellow tabs on the right, and working on the layout still. Should be up sometime before the summer.
This is a Nike commercial about Team Canada at 2010. There are 32million(how many of us are there now??) Canadians expecting nothing less than a Gold medal. The hype has started since the orientation camp and is just going to build for the next 160 or so days. Its going to be crazy here in Vancouver in February, but like the rest of us, I can’t wait. Gold or nothing.
So here is the complete trailer for the sci-fi book, “Post-human” by David Simpson. I created a few of the shots in this, which can be seen on here. I had never heard of a book trailer before this project and hopefully we will see more of them. Was a lot of fun working on a more visual effects style too. Lots of experimenting and learning new techniques.
This is another scene from the sci-fi novel, book trailer I worked on called, “Post-human”, by David Simpson. This scene he just wanted the guy taking off from the street into space, then flying across the galaxy. I have done an earth zoom shot before, so recreating that was pretty simple. To the guy I added a green glow, made with Shine, and animated the expansion of the mask to make it flicker a bit. For the space shot, I added a fractal noise layer to give the sun the “heat” effect and then I pulled back the camera and animated a lens flare.
I recently worked on a book trailer for the sci-fi book called “Post-human”, by David Simpson. I was asked to create a few scenes from it. This one is a green “force-field” glow that ignites when the guy snaps his hand back. I played a lot with fractal noise, and turbulent displace to get the smokey effect. Added a glow to it and then the lens flare to the final comp, which faded the green colour to a yellowish hue which I think really took away the “cheeziness” of it.
This is the wedding video I made for my sisters wedding this summer to my best friend. As you can imagine, I was not too impressed with my best friend dating my sister at first, but that was probably to be expected. She has never been happier and now I have my drinking buddy at every family function, which is pretty sweet. Anyways I made this to basically show how they grew up and how they met each other, which I guess could be considered my doing.
I went to my buddy’s bachelor party in Kelowna this last weekend, and we shot some video of us drinking and us playing golf. The only reason we didn’t have more footage is because you can’t take cameras into the bars which is where we were the rest of the time. I cut the edits to the song by Guns and Roses, “Ain’t it Fun”. My camera is a 5 year old MiniDV so the quality is pretty low, but for an older look it kind of works.
Game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals was on yesterday and in Canada, it should basically be considered a holiday. One of the most exciting playoffs ended with a very intense win by the Penguins. This article pretty much describes what Im talking about.
I have redone, tweaked, fixed and polished a few of the projects that I did over the last year at school. There is another version of Bobby Fischer on there. I did a little work on it for my portfolio and ended up having to redo all the audio for it. Ayrakus has also been redone, and I am in the process of re-editing Just Another Psycho. Instead of posting them all on my blog, I decided to tell you where they all are. Vimeo. The link on the sidebar will take you to my Vimeo page where I upload all my work. I recently did a free lance job after school for an eBay Marketing company and that is also there.
