One more day

So I need to get things in order with school first before thinking about making serious posts. I’m almost done with my portfolio right here. Will have all my work and the last little additions up. Why am I posting about this incomplete thing you ask? Maybe? You shouldn’t! Really. I dunno I just wanted to post something. This seemed better than some comlpetely random thing I suppose.

The XML loader things is coming after graduation which is 1 days(yes I know I put da s at the end of day…because I can. Really).

So Here is what I be wanting to do. I have a bunch of video files, 720 x 486 .mov H264, that need to be displayed on a portfolio. What I’m going to have to do is load in an XML file then drop the children of the rot node into an array. I want these videos to be laid out in a grid fashion with other information such as the title and description. There also needs to be a transition for when the video’s thumbnail is clicked.

Using XML will allow the player to be easily updated, and videos will only be loaded in when they are needed. Anyway I’m going to get started on this now will update later.

I’m working on a portfolio site for a classmate in flash. I’m finding out that xml is oh so handy. It really is a great easy way to load in external data. For the site I’m going to be building an XML based video loader more on that to come. Really!

I was walking past a construction site and saw one of those sideways square traffic signs or signal whatever. That’s what I asked myself at that moment…strange? Maybe!

I think I’m finally settled on what it is I’m actually doing for my final project. Here it is…A RSS recommendation/suggestion engine. In addition to taking in meta data and checking what their interests are, it will also factor in the users emotion at the time, check the feed which will have an emotion attached, and finally hand it to the user on a diamond encrusted moon rock(hand picked from the moon itself)…Really? Of course, I got a spaceship. For the purpose of my final project though, I’ll pretty much be putting together a prototype like proof of concept thing. It’s my hope to continue working on it until graduation. If that goes well then I’ll just keep going until it’s done. Then lock it away so no one can use it but me, because it’s gonna be soooo sweet! Like something that’s really sweet…like chocolate or…sugar?

So…that was too serious like. I got wire frames and flow charts to do and I have 6 more weeks to go before its due. It’ll be a Javascript based RIA. I don;t know Javascript but I’m picking it up fairly quickly. I figured I have a fair grasp on Actionscript so I’m trying to learn some new skills. Like weaving and ice sculpture…Oh YEAH!!!

Forthwith and expediently…whatever that means. I noticed today that you feel tall when everyone around you is shorter than you are. So if you ever find yourself surrounded by people taller than you…Remember…Kneecaps are breakable! Really? nooo!

So I’ve almost completed my project plan for my final. YAY! Maybe! It has actually been a pretty revealing process and I’m enjoying certain bits of it. I discovered the power of a work breakdown structure(WBS)…who woulda thunk it? Not Frankenstein that’s for sure. He’s too busy fraternising with the villagers…Really! But the WBS really gives you an idea of what you’re up against. I will admit that it may frighten you or empower you to go on valiantly. In my case it’s the latter so…umm that has to count for something me thinks.

In addition to giving you a really broad overview of the project it opens up other areas like defining milestones and such. From there you can organise how you’re going to tackle that monstrous abomination of a product back log, the bastard child of the All-Knight and the Work Breakdown Structure from the Crypt. From there determining what to put into your weekly sprint(or however long it may be) is easy as cherry pie on a Grade 1 arithmetic algorithm…Really!

Back to the dungeon slave!!!

Yeah thats right its back to school with me. I really didn’t want to come back but now that i’m here I can’t stay home. How sad…really?…Maybe! It’s good that I want to be here otherwise…well I dunno but i’m being optimistic about it.

I am now however realising just how much is on my plate for the next 2 months. Having sat down for the past two hours brainstorming features and thinking about my final I’m having second thought as to what it will be(from a feature standpoint). I definitely want to make a social application allowing for users to interact with each other. It’s a feed reader but how much control should the user have over the feeds? Will lassie ever get fed up with the stupid humans and their affinity to fall down wells/get trapped in mine shafts? Also i’m thinking if the application should even do the work of determining the mood of the pulled content. Thats the big thing I wanted to accomplish with this but ‘m worried if I can pull that off.

It would be nice to do something that was totally focused on the users and how they feel about things. Having articles come in as neutral and then allow the users to determine what the mood of it is. My original idea was something similar to this but then ofcourse that would be too doable. I think i’m just losing the old internal personal struggle today…Maybe! meep! wow where did that come from I wonder…

In other news I got sunshine on a cloudy day. The thing about that is it’s rainy on the days it’s bright and sunny.

I started reading a book. I’ll let you know how that ends up. Probably will be very bad for the book. I had a teacher who looked at a book that was in my possession and asked me “are you at war with your books?” to which I replied ” Yes, and I’m fighting a losing battle! Please belieeeeve meee!!!!”. The teacher then picked up the book and the sleeve fell off and maybe a couple pages dropped slowly onto the classroom floor. He says “It doesn’t look like it” and that’s when I realised my knee would hurt today, 7 years ago. The book I’m reading is “The Decameron” by Giovanni Boccaccio it’s pretty interesting and I dare say it may change my life…Maybe! I keep finding these little messages for life in all the short stories that make up the book. I wonder if old Boccaccio intended to do that? Probably not, but the book deserves a read I think.

In other news it’s 2009 and I am in no mood to do anything productive with my time(school wise). I really should be doing research and coding instead of reading books and stuff  but [[[[it is what it is OR it appears as it appears?maybe]] E-Prime, interesting…Really, though that translation may be wrong]]. I think i’m almost on the right track in regards to this blogging thing though. Maybe if I could get serious and make a proper post or atleast post something related to Flash then i’ll be golden. It’s all about discipline me thinks and one day i’ll look up the meaning of that word(discipline) so I can go out and get me some(if it can be had).

I’m still here and although I have nothing of substance to post the gap between posts is smaller. Only 11 days as opposed to 4 months wooo! Small steps lead to big things I always say. That’s probably the first time I’ve said/typed that phrase but I’m definitely going to start saying it quite often now.

So after sleeping in and waking up at 3pm everyday for the last week and half I finally unpacked my bag and started working on stuff for my final. I think tomorrow I might even fire up the old Flash thing and get some coding done. Only so I can feel like I ended the year on a positive note.

hmm, I been watching alot of old movies over the break. Saw alot of old classics for the first time and some old favorites I hadn’t seen in a long time. Easy Rider…wow that changed my life. Network…that changed the change my life took after watching Easy Rider. The last detail…”Well kid, there’s more things in this life than you can possibly imagine. I knew a whore once in Wilmington. She had a glass eye… used to take it out and wink people off for a dollar.” C’mon thats inspiring…really…maybe! I shouldn’t write when I’m completely bored. Last of the Mohicans the music moves me. So does that song from Groundhog Day. “Put your little hand in mine…” yeahhh.

Now that thats out the way, I have to brainstorm features for my final project and look at a bunch of  feed readers. I wish I could servey some folk. Thats so much easier…for me…I hope no-one with less than half a braincell reads this. Cus it’ll prolly be destroyed if they do.

This post has inspired me to rename my blog and now I might even redesign it properly…Really?…MAybe! yeahhh
