Here is my final 3d project from last term, I didn’t want to upload it until I had a soundtrack for it because I spent a lot of time building the movie so I wanted it to look perfect. I spent approximately 20 hours making it.

Sew & Stuff

I have been making stuffed monsters lately and I began to think about creating stuffed type. I thought for my first attempt I would create a stuffed ampersand. This is one of my favorite characters of type and it almost goes completely unnoticed, so I thought I would spend some time and make a statement with it. For this concept, the stuffed ampersand would be made out of an old business suit purchased from Value Village. I want to use this material to reference its most common use: formal names of businesses (especially firms and partnerships, particularly law firms, architectural firms, and stockbroker firms).

Final Project - A Greener Outlook

September 5th, 2008 by Tyler Lemermeyer, under Final Project. No Comments

In the digital design program there is a point where we all must create final project to create a major portfolio asset which will wow the employers in the field which you want to go in. For myself, I would like to work in design firm which does both interactive and motion design. I have chosen to focus my project on something which can be comparable to something in the industry, instead of creating something farfetched like a re-brand for a company like Nike (which is not a realistic student project because they have a lot of people doing something like that). For the next 9 weeks I will be heavily focused on creating my final project, and I will blog about it once a week.

My final project is a branded experiential website which sells eco friendly condos to young working professionals. I have chosen to do this because I am passionate about green living, and confident that we can live in harmony with the world. Vancouver has such an oversaturated condo market that the marketing has become sloppy, so I thought I would take advantage of this by spending the time in creating something different from the rest.

I found the condo brands in the Vancouver saturated market focus on selling lifestyle. What I mean by selling lifestyle is how marketing companies are using images of people doing yoga, enjoying a cup over a granite counter top, or zipping around town in their Vespa to portray how people live their lives that live in the condos. They personify a lifestyle which you will have in this condo development. I think this notion is silly when the people who bought this condo to have such a vibrant lifestyle enjoying the night life, but they never learn the names of people who sleep a mere 2 meters away and only being separated by a foot of concrete. Surly people who live in these tight quarters are going to have something in common but there is no structure for them to talk, unless they are stuck in the elevator together.

I would like to take a different marketing approach with my fictitious condo development (which I will be created from scratch). I haven’t entirely figured out how I am going to do this but here is a possible solution: To sell “purpose” by illustrating that if you live at this development that you will be a part of something that will change history, like providing to a greener future, and also by having amenities which encourage community living.

So this is what I will be working with for with and I will blog as much as I can about it, about its progress, my struggles and of course the materials which you can see. Please feel free to comment with your thoughts.

Here are some links which reference the lazy marketing for the condo market in Vancouver.

This was an exercise for my 3d class. We had to create a music identity to practice our skills in 3d. There will be more to come throughout the term.
